BMW i8

About:
The BMW i8, first introduced as the BMW Concept Vision Efficient Dynamics, is a plug-in hybrid under development by BMW. The initial concept car was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, and the BMW i8 concept car destined for production was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The i8 has a 7.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which delivers an all-electric range of 35 km (22 mi).
In 2010 BMW announced the mass production of the Concept Vision Efficient Dynamics in Leipzig beginning in 2013 as the BMW i8. The i8 is part of BMW's "Project i" and will be marketed as a new brand, BMW i, sold separately from BMW or Mini. The BMW i3 and the BMW i8 will be the first models available from 2013. Other i models will follow.
The Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car is a plug-in hybrid with a three cylinder turbo diesel engine. Additionally, there are two electric motors with 139 horsepower. It allows an acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (160 mph).
According to BMW, the average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle (KV01) is 3.76 litres/100 kilometers, (75.1 mpg imp), and has a carbon dioxide emission rating of 99 grams per kilometer (1,3 l/100 km and 33g CO2/km ; EU-PHEV ECE-R101). The estimated all-electric range is 50 km (31 mi), and the 24-litre diesel tank extends the total vehicle range to up to 700 km (430 mi). The lightweight chassis is made mainly from aluminium. The windshield, top, doors and fenders are made from poly carbonate glass, with the body having a drag coefficient of 0.22.
The BMW i8 concept plug-in hybrid electric vehicle unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show has a 7.2 kWh (26 MJ) lithium-ion battery pack that allows an all-electric range of 35 km (22 mi). Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (160 mph) and is expected to go from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in 4.6 seconds. Under normal driving conditions the i8 is expected to deliver 80 mpg-US (2.9 L/100 km; 96 mpg-imp) under the European cycle. A full charge of the battery will take less than 2 hours using 220V.
The i8 combines the electric drive system of the BMW i3, with a 96 kW (129 hp) electric motor located in the front axle powering the front wheels and at the rear is a turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-cylinder gasoline engine producing 164 kW (220 hp) and 300 N·m (220 lbf·ft) of torque. The result is a combined output of 260 kW (349 hp). All four wheels provide regenerative braking. The location of the battery pack in the energy tunnel gives the vehicle a low center of gravity, enhancing its dynamics. Together with the positioning of the motor and engine over the axles, the result is an optimum 50/50 weight distribution.

Land Rover FreeLander 2

The Land Rover Freelander is a compact SUV made by Land Rover. The current generation is sold as the LR2 in North America and as the Freelander 2 in Europe. It uses a monocoque (unibody) structure, in common with almost all other 'softroaders' in its class, but unlike traditional SUV's that were built with body-on-frame designs.
The Freelander 2 debuted at the 2006 British International Motor Show. While the new model retained the Freelander name in Europe, it was marketed as LR2 in North America (mirroring the marketing of the new third generation Land Rover Discovery as LR3). A presentation at the Kensington Roof Gardens was held for journalists featuring celebrity tennis player Maria Sharapova.
The second generation Freelander is based on the EUCD platform, which itself is based on the C1 platform. The EUCD platform will be used by more upcoming vehicles from Volvo. The engine range is all-new for Freelander, featuring transversely-mounted 3.2 litre I6 engine of the Volvo SI6 series, which first debuted in the new Volvo S80, as well as the 2.2 litre DW12 common rail turbodiesel engine, co-developed by PSA Peugeot Citroën.
Unlike previous Land Rovers, this car is manufactured in the Halewood Body & Assembly facility, near Liverpool, and was until 2009 manufactured alongside the Jaguar X-Type. The new Freelander features higher ground clearance and off-road capabilities that are closer to other Land Rover models. It has improved quality interior with more safety features as standard. The Freelander 2 features a modified version of the Terrain Response off-road driving system as fitted to the Discovery 3 and the Range Rover. The 4WD system was developed in conjunction with Haldex and was called Third generation coupling. Vehicles from 2009 MY are fitted with a modified design of the active on-demand coupling, known as Haldex's Fourth generation.
The new Freelander was first sold in the U.S. in 2007 as the LR2. The 2008 version is called the LR2 HSE. The HSE has added side trim and 19 inch wheels. A Volvo 3.2 litre inline six-cylinder engine producing 230 hp (170 kW) is standard, with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. In the United Kingdom, the standard engine is a 2.2 litre diesel. Interior appointments include an Alpine 440 watt 14-speaker surround sound audio and touch navigation screen options. An optional cold climate package includes heated front windscreen, heated front seats with two heating levels and heated windscreen washers. The optional lighting package includes bi-xenon headlights, adaptive front-lighting, memory for the driver seat, as well as exterior mirrors and approach and puddle lamps.

Volkswagen Vento


ABOUT:

The Volkswagen Vento is a sedan car manufactured by Volkswagen India since 2010. It is essentially a three-box Volkswagen Polo with a stretched wheelbase and has been developed especially for the Indian market.
Technically, the car is based on a stretched version of the Volkswagen Polo. The extra wheelbase offers more rear legroom than the hatchback, something that is hugely appreciated by the Indian customers. VW offers a choice of two engine options; a 1.6 liter petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual or automatic gearbox and a 1.6 liter diesel engine mated only to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The car is available in three trim levels: the Trend line, Comfort line and High line, with the Petrol High line also having the automatic option. Among the three variants, the Trend line is a bare-basic trim level, forming an entry point for the vehicle. The Comfort line gets a CD-MP3 music system, body-colored door mirrors and handles and fog lamps among other features. The High line features an Integrated USB music system, steering-mounted audio controls, leather upholstery, ABS, front airbags, a multi-function display, 16" alloy wheels and other standard features.
The Volkswagen Vento Petrol variant offers a fuel efficiency of 11.5 Kmpl in City and about 15.8 Kmpl on Highway. Volkswagen Vento diesel variant of the car gives a mileage of about 15.5 Kmpl in the city and nearly 20.5 Kmpl on the highways
VW recently introduced a new special edition version "Breeze" on the Trend line, featuring new, nifty features and added accessories. Besides the "Breeze', Volkswagen India, in collaboration with the IPL authorities, annually offers a special IPL edition at a slight premium.
In March 2011, Volkswagen recorded an impressive sales figure of 3973 units, dethroning the Honda City for the first time since its launch. Overall the car has been quite successful in the Indian market and has been particularly lauded for its build quality.
In November 2011, Skoda, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, introduced the Rapid, a car that is basically a re-badged Vento.
In April 2012, the car is sold in Malaysia under the name "Polo Sedan". The car is also manufactured and sold in Russia as "Volkswagen Polo Sedan" with only the petrol engine available.

Skoda Rapid 2011

 ABOUT:


The Skoda Rapid is a subcompact car manufactured by Skoda India, the subsidiary of Czech automaker Skoda Auto, in Chakan, only for Indian market. It was launched on the market in November 2011.
In October 2011, Skoda resurrected the Rapid nameplate for its similar version of the Volkswagen Vento made in India, with sales starting in November. The cars are similar, except for the grille, headlights, bumpers, taillights and some interior and exterior trim. The car is produced by Skoda Auto India Private Limited in Pune.
On the inside, the cabin similar to its Volkswagen counterpart, apart from the Skoda family steering wheel, instrument panel, gear lever and audio system. Finished only in black, the central console has mismatch in the design of its parts: vents, buttons and climate control come from VW,  audio system, with its large buttons and fonts, is from Skoda. Rapid includes dual tone upholstery, information cluster, driver assist, centralized console, chrome decor for interior parts, audio system with audio input for portable media players and SD/MMC data card reader, adjustable seats, headrests, armrests, tilt steering.
The Rapid is available with a choice of petrol (manual or automatic transmission) and diesel.

Volvo S60


ABOUT:

The Volvo S60 is a compact executive car produced by the Swedish automaker Volvo from 2000. Two generations of the sedan have been produced to date.
In 2008, Volvo Cars announced the Volvo S60 Concept, which features a four-cylinder 1.6L petrol engine using highly-efficient Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDi) developed by Ford (a mechanical clone of the new Ford Eco Boost 1.6L engine). The concept car was exhibited in several automobile shows in 2009, and Sim Bin has released a free game based on the GTR game engine that includes the S60 Concept.
The second generation S60 began production in Ghent, Belgium on May 17, 2010, with an expected annual production of 90,000 vehicles. Official photos were released in November 2009, and the car was publicly unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. It debuted as a 2011 model in North America.
The V60 is an estate version of the S60, and was released at the Paris Motor Show in October 2010.
The engine range of the S60 and V60 comprises four petrol engines and three diesels. The engines available are the T3, T4, T5 and T6 petrol engines and D3, D5 and 1.6D Drive diesel engines, the latter of which has Stop Start Technology to increase the efficiency of the engine. The 2.4-liter D5 plug-in hybrid version, fitted with a 5-cylinder diesel engine and a 50 kW electric motor, is schedule for sale in Europe by November 2012.
The Volvo S60 and V60 come with Volvo's City Safety system as standard, which is the same system fitted to its sister the XC60. This system stops the car in the event of impending collision in 'City Traffic' below 19 mph (31 km/h). A new safety feature named "Pedestrian Detection", available on both the V60 and S60, detects people in front of the car and automatically applies the brakes if the driver does not react in time.
This new sedan will show off Volvo's completely new design language already seen in the Volvo XC60 concept. It will ride on the same platform as the XC60. This new design is thought to target younger demographics. Even so, Volvo hopes to keep its high-income customer appeal; from the first generation, a Volvo S60 buyer has had a higher household income than a BMW 3 Series customer.
New features include the new large Volvo iron symbol, parallel to the grille day running lamps, and larger spaced letters in the brand name on rear. A new safety feature, Pedestrian Detection, will be added to automatically apply brakes if a pedestrian is detected in front of the car and the driver does not react in time.

Mercedes-Benz M-Class

 ABOUT:


The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV), first offered in 1997 as a 1998 model, and built by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz. Gradually, the M-Class became a sales success in the United States and Mexico. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLK-Class (based on the C-Class) and the larger GL-Class, with which it shares platforms. For a short time, between the years 1999 to 2002, the M-Class was also built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, for the European market, before all production moved to the U.S. plant near Vance, Alabama.
At the 2009 New York International Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz showed their ML 450 Hybrid SUV, which was announced on 8 April 2009. The ML 450 Hybrid consumes almost 50% less fuel than the ML 550 does, even though it produces over 90% of the power generated by the V8 model. Total power generated will be 335 hp (250 kW) and 381 lb·ft (517 N·m) of torque, while getting 24 mpg-US (9.8 L/100 km) on the highway and 21 mpg-US (11 L/100 km) in the city, according to United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates. The engine itself runs on the Atkinson cycle and by itself makes 275 hp. The ML 450 was developed under the Global Hybrid Cooperation, and will only be available in the United States under lease.
In 2006, development began on the next-generation M-Class and spanned over a period of 5 years, a much shorter duration than its predecessor. In 2008, the final design was approved and patented domestically on December 16, 2008(U.S. design patent filed on June 15, 2009). The newly redesigned M-class (chassis name W166) was introduced in pre-production form 10 June 2011 as a 2012 model. The first customer-designated W166 rolled off the Tuscaloosa production line on 20 July. It is moderately refined, taking styling cues from the new generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class. An increase in rear seat legroom has been implemented, alongside adjustable rear back-rests. It was to be launched in September 2011.
New features in the 2012 M-Class include an updated 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission to provide improved fuel economy, optional Adaptive Cruise Control (Distronic Plus), Active Lane Departure Warning System, and an adjustable-height air suspension (AirMatic).
A On&Off Road Package is available for most markets (now including North America) as of the 2013 model year. The package adds a two-speed dual range Magna Powertrain transfer case with center differential lock, reduction gearing, under body skid plates, and a 6-mode selectable terrain driving program system. The rear differential lock has been discontinued.
Open front and rear differentials are fitted, and use four-wheel electronic traction system (4-ETS) to simulate front and rear differential locks.

Chevrolet Sail U-VA

ABOUT:

General Motors India launched the premium hatchback Chevrolet Sail U-VA on Friday starting at Rs 4.44 lakh.
Sail U-VA will replace the Aveo U-VA and will be available in petrol and diesel engines. 
"The Sail U-VA is a strong edition to our small car portfolio. With the market preferring bigger cars in the compact segment, with Sail U-VA we are able to balance our presence in the segment along with Beat," General Motors India President and Managing Director Lowell Paddock told reporters here.
General Motors is pinning hopes on Sail to expand volumes in India and expects it to be its best selling model in the country.
At present, the company's compact car Beat is its best selling model in India.
Engineers at the GM Technical Centre-India in Bangalore spent nearly two years adapting the platform for India to ensure that it would meet the requirements of the Indian market and Indian car buyers, he said.
"The much-anticipated Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback is an important addition to GM's small car portfolio in India," Vempati said.
"It brings a new sense of vitality to the largest, fastest-growing and most competitive segment in the domestic passenger car market," Vempati added.
He said that the Sail U-VA hatchback's exterior exudes Chevrolet's sporty styling. The front view features Chevrolet's signature design cues, including a dual-port grille adorned with a gold Bowie.

Ford Escape 2013

 ABOUT:

The Ford Escape is a compact crossover sold by the automaker Ford Motor Company introduced in 2000 as a 2001 model year and priced below the Ford Explorer. Although it is technically a crossover vehicle, it is marketed by Ford as part of its traditional SUV lineup (Escape, Explorer, Expedition) rather than its separate crossover lineup (Edge, Flex). The Escape was sold in Europe as the Ford Maverick. It was jointly developed with Mazda, in which Ford owned a controlling interest, and was released simultaneously with the Mazda Tribute. In the United States, Ford's Mercury division released a luxury version called the Mariner starting with the 2005 model year, but ended production in October 2010 as Ford ended the Mercury brand.
The Escape is built on the Ford CD2 platform, which is in turn based on the Mazda GF platform, which was used by the Mazda 626. However, on June 23, 2010, it was announced that Ford will end production on the second generation Escape in 2011 and move production to its Louisville Assembly Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, where it is slated to be succeeded by an American version of its European CUV counterpart, the Ford Kuga. The third generation Escape debuted in April 2012 as a 2013 model year.
A hybrid version of the Escape was released in 2004, making it the first hybrid SUV. In early 2012 Ford discontinued the production of the hybrid version as two of the 2013 Escape trims use turbocharged Eco Boost technology that delivers a higher fuel economy than the 2012 hybrid model. A total of 122,850 Escape hybrids were built since 2005.
The all-new 2013 Ford Escape was revealed at the 2011 Los Angles Auto Show. It shares the same basic platform as the all-new 2012 Ford Focus. Most of its styling derives from the Ford Kuga, which is sold in Europe and Asia. Two Eco Boost inline four-cylinder turbocharged engines will be offered. The basic engine is a 2.5L naturally-aspirated I4. The new Escape is the first Ford vehicle to offer a new 1.6-liter unit, soon to be available in the Ford Focus, Ford Fusion, and possibly the Ford Fiesta. In the process of revamping the Escape's engine lineup, both the Hybrid model with its 2.5-liter Atkinson power train and the 3.0-liter V6 engine will be dropped. Ford claims that the fuel economy of the new 1.6L Eco Boost engine will match that of the current Ford Escape Hybrid, while the new 2.0-liter engine produces more horsepower than the current V6 unit. The transmission is a six-speed automatic.
Also new for the 2013 model year is My Ford Touch, which is currently available on many Ford vehicles. The newest software version of the My Ford Touch System will offer an all-new UI and additional features.
Another new feature is the optional hands-free lift gate. A person carrying the keyless entry transmitter can raise their foot under the rear bumper of the Escape to remotely open the tailgate. This feature will also be available on the Ford C-Max Hybrid later in the year, and was introduced on that vehicle in Europe. The Ford C-Max Hybrid will replace the Escape's hybrid model.
Eco-friendly seat fabrics are standard on lower trim levels, as well as the vehicle's carpeting being mostly constructed from recycled plastic water bottles. This allows the new Escape to be mostly recyclable at the end of its life cycle.
The new Escape will be offered with either front wheel drive or all wheel drive options, and will be offered in the S, SE, SEL, and Titanium trim levels. The 2013 Ford Escape production began April 11. The production of the 2012 Ford Escape ended on April 28, 2012, overlapping slightly in production with the 2013 model due to plant issues, with limited availability of the 2012 model year Ford Escape vehicles being available at Ford showrooms. As of mid-May 2012, the third generation Escape is available at most dealerships across the U.S. and will be introduced in Canada starting June.
In 2012, about 3,500 Ford Escape were damaged in a hail storm on April 28 in Louisville KY while they awaited shipment to dealers. Ford prepares a launch to dealers in June.
