458 Spider 2013 is the star of Ferrari’s stand here in Frankfurt. The new Ferrari 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari's mid-rear engine V8's and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. The 458 Spider is the folding-hardtop convertible version of Ferrari's magnificent 458 Italia coupe. It offers an open-air experience for those who prefer the wind in their face and the scream of their Ferrari exhaust as loud as the bright red paint job.Ferrari 458 remains unchanged, highlighted by the screaming naturally aspirated direct-injected 4.5-liter V-8 that sends 570 bhp to the rear wheels via Ferrari's dual-clutch 7-speed F1 paddle-shift transmission. The power is transferred to the road by Ferrari's class-leading dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission through the sophisticated E-Diff, itself integrated with the F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS for maximum handling dynamics. The car delivers 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in under 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h. The 458 Italia's sublime driving dynamics possible is a rigid, lightweight aluminum chassis that features advanced alloys and aerospace industry manufacturing and bonding techniques. The suspension is composed of a twin wishbone/multi-link setup, and an electronic rear differential helps apportion power so as to make the best of use of available traction. Standard carbon fiber brakes are extremely fade-resistant and effective at bringing the 458 Spider down from extra-legal speeds.The aluminum hardtop can be lowered or raised in just 14 seconds. Ferrari says that the aluminum roof, the first such application on a mid-rear-engine sports car, saves around 55 lbs. Although a read between the lines here might give us cause for concern, our experiences with previous Ferrari Spiders (the 360 and the 430) tells us that the new 458 Spider will not even be remotely close to a boulevardier. Top up or down, the new 458 is said to have identical levels of structural rigidity. Fully integrated into the styling of the car, the hard-top was engineered to fit neatly ahead of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or the performance of the car.The rear of the car is characterized by innovative forms with the buttresses designed to optimize the flow of air to the engine intakes and the clutch and gearbox oil radiators.The design was perfected to slow and diffuse the air in the cockpit, enabling normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h.n order to free up real estate for the large paddle shifters, Ferrari has done away with steering wheel-mounted stalks and relocated a host of secondary controls to the steering wheel. This quirky setup is a bit of an acquired taste.
